Junya Tanner began training as a Pilates instructor in 2003.  He completed his preliminary teacher training at Uncle Joe's Pilates Studio and then moved to New York to complete the 600 hr. Romana's Pilates Teacher Certification.  The teachers he was able to study with include Joseph Pilates' protégé, Romana Kryzanowska, Romana's daughter Sari Mejia Santo, and granddaughter Daria Pace. 

   Upon completing his teacher certification, Junya moved to Sarasota, Florida where he opened a small studio from his home.  As well as teaching at home, Junya commuted to Ft. Lauderdale every week to teach at Pro Pilates with Tonka Cascais.  After six months of commuting to Ft. Lauderdale, Junya decided to focus more on the home studio in Sarasota and build a larger clientele.  During that time, Junya also became certified as an Ayurvedic Health Practitioner. 

   After 2 years in Sarasota, Junya had a strong spiritual calling and joined a monastic community in Germany.  There he lived as a monk for 2 years. Then in December of 2008, he returned to his hometown of New Orleans.  He had been away from Pilates for 2 years and he missed the physical practice of it as well as the teaching.  After he started doing Pilates again, an injured back he incurred during his stay in Germany began to feel better again.  He was compelled to return to teaching and decided to contact Uncle Joe's Pilates, the place where his Pilates career began.
